Privacy Policy

GearGraph is made by GR Digital Media LLC. This policy describes the GearGraph iPhone app and this website.

We do not collect your data

GearGraph has no user accounts, no servers, and no analytics. There is no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party software development kits of any kind in the app. We cannot see what you log, and we have no mechanism by which we could.

Where your records live

Everything you enter — vehicles, service entries, fuel fill-ups, photos, receipts and reminders — is stored on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, in your own private iCloud account. That storage belongs to you and is governed by Apple's privacy policy and iCloud terms. GR Digital Media LLC has no access to it.

If you turn iCloud off, GearGraph keeps working and your records simply stay on your device.

Photos lose their location before they are saved

Photos from a camera usually carry hidden metadata, and the most sensitive part of it is where the picture was taken. A photo of your car is normally a photo taken at your home.

GearGraph re-encodes every photo and scanned receipt as it is saved, which keeps the picture and discards everything around it — GPS coordinates, the capture time, the camera model. It happens to vehicle photos and receipt scans alike, whether they come from the camera or your photo library. So when you export a report and hand it to a buyer, the images in it do not carry your address in metadata you cannot see.

Receipts can still show your details in the printing, because the shop put them there. GearGraph leaves receipt images out of a report unless you switch them on, and tells you what is in them when you do.

The one thing GearGraph sends anywhere

If you type a Vehicle Identification Number and tap Look Up, GearGraph sends those 17 characters to the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's free public vehicle database at vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov, in order to retrieve the year, make, model and specifications of that vehicle.

Nothing else is sent with it: no name, no account, no advertising or device identifier, and no other part of your records. As with any request to any website, your device's IP address is necessarily visible to the server receiving it — that is how the answer finds its way back — and NHTSA handles it under their own policies. We never see it, because the request does not pass through us.

This happens only when you ask for it, the app tells you so at the moment you do, and GearGraph is entirely usable without ever touching the feature.

This is the only outbound network request the app makes, for any reason, ever.

Purchases

GearGraph Unlimited is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details, and we receive no personal information about you as a result of a purchase.

This website

These pages are static files served by Netlify. They contain no analytics, no tracking pixels, no cookies, and no embedded third-party content. There is no JavaScript on this site at all. Netlify may keep standard server request logs as part of hosting; see Netlify's privacy policy.

If you contact us

The support page has a form. If you use it, we receive the email address you give us, the topic you pick, and whatever you write in the message. That is the only place on this site or in the app where you hand us anything.

We use it to answer you, and for nothing else. It is not added to a mailing list, not used for advertising, and not sold or shared. Submissions are delivered through Netlify's form handling and are stored in our Netlify account; see Netlify's privacy policy for their part in that.

Nothing you send here is connected to anything inside the app. The app has no account, so there is no identity to connect it to. Please don't include anything sensitive in a support message — we never need it.

We keep support correspondence only as long as it is useful for handling your request and any follow-up — ordinarily no more than 24 months — and then delete it. You can ask us to delete yours sooner, at any time, by writing to the address below, and you can ask what we hold.

Children

GearGraph is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top.
